Sniffing A Book

Author: Cassandra Clare Read: 9/26/2018 Pages: 502 Rating: 5 Format: physical Response: Ugh, spoiler, Tessa's going to get married to Jem. I love them together. Jem is the perfect gentleman and so good for Tessa, and she does everything she can to be good for him also. But Jem is getting more sick. They also have to figure out who's a traitor and "take care" of Tessa's brother. The Lightwood brothers come to the institute to help train the girls. But both of them start to fall for two of the girls at the institute. This is a cute and suspenseful addition to the series.

The entire book was a satisfying journey from England to America full of twists and turns. I assumed with a name like "escaping from Houdini", the murderer wouldn't be Houdini, but Maniscalco had me questioning that through the second half of the book. there is so much to offload with the ending of this book. The reason I have this book as a 3.5, is despite how much I loved it, the ending was garbage. First of all, Cresswell leaving without Audrey!? I'm not okay. These two are goals and she nearly died for him. Like, come on. Second, the Epilogue wasn't well written to know if Cresswell actually comes back to Audrey, or leaves for his in...

Author: Cassandra Clare Read: 7/24/2018 Pages: 481 Rating: 5 Format: physical Response: This book was a perfect addition to the Mortal Instruments series. Though it wasn't a continuation, instead it was prequel. It takes place in 1878 when Tessa leave New York and goes to London at the request of her brother after her only other family dies suddenly. Here we find out that Tessa has abilities like a warlock, but no warlock mark. She ends up teaming up, and sometimes fighting, with the ancestors of Clary, Jace, Alec, and Isabelle. Together with Will and Jem, Tessa fights the clockwork creatures. All of the characters are strong in their own ways. Will is both frustrating and easy to understand. He has a moral obligation he feels like to not let anyone too close to him. And he does a good job at pushing everyone but Jem away. The style of wr...

Author: Kass Morgan Read: 7/18/2018 Pages: 326 Rating: 4 Format: physical Response: I enjoyed this more than the show on the CW, and I love that show. I really like Bellamy and Clarke here as compared to the first season of the TV show. Luke and Glass was something I wasn't expecting, and at first I was not a fan, but they grew on me. It was interesting to see what families were willing to do to protect each other and keep the people they loved safe. The point of view changes every chapter, and while I don't typically like changes in POV, it was well played. Where other writers send you across time with the switch, Morgan kept it all on the same timeline (aside from flashbacks), so when you were done seeing what was happening on Earth, she flipped you up to space for what was happening right then. 

Author: Jessika Coker Read: 7/16/2018 Pages: 144 Rating: 4.5 Format: physical Response: This was such a spur of the moment purchase, and I have no regrets. I enjoyed this book so much and it was so cute! It follows Juniper and being rescued into a loving home. Juniper has her quirks, and she's still a wild animal, but the love Jessika has for her friend is amazing. After reading this, my heart was so full and I was so happy. The pictures were gorgeous and the writing flowed wonderfully. The only thing that I would've changed is to have sentences end on the same page and not 2 pages later because of the pictures. 

Author: Kelley Armstrong Read: 7/12/2018 Pages: 372 Rating: 4.4 Format: physical Response: I very much enjoyed this book. The inner monolog was brutal at points though and super repetitive. There were times where one paragraph was an entire page, and it was all monolog. I wish I was exaggerating. The story was good overall. The dynamic between Clay and Elena was enjoyable to "watch" as she was coming to terms with accepting him and learning to be comfortable staying with him despite still being angry with him. 

Author: Naoko Takeuchi Read: 5/10/18 (3) and 5/17/18 (4) Pages: 238 (3) and 244 (4) Rating: 4.5 average Format: physical Response: I wouldn't typically lump 2 books together, but I'm going to here. In book 3 Tuxedo Mask is bad and her friends fall in line behind Queen Beryl. Sailor Moon still doesn't know her past but when everything's said and done, "Usagi" shows up wanting the Legendary Silver Crystal. Book 3 was good, but forgettable, as it sets the stage for book 4. The battle that happens, is there, but nothing really to write home about. The group I'm more in this for is the Black Moon that show up in the 4th book. They have the Malefic Black Cristal and they start kidnapping Sailor Moon's friend. Sailor Moon travels to the 30th century and finds out what her future holds. This was such a good book, I know I will want to read it again some day. It...

2018 was a little rough as far as actually getting reading done. In between my job and my business, I was one busy person. This was especially true for the last few months of the year. It's been almost a month and I'm still catching up on sleep. I got a few books knocked out for my tbr, but ended up adding more to the list then I took off. And as always, I deviated from my list. I'm more of an action and adventure type of girl, so this was my first tumble into this genre. It was like stepping into the kiddy pool for me, as it was still very YA. Audrey Rose and Thomas Cresswell are some of my favorite characters I've read. Their dynamic is adorable and makes me stupid smile. Stalking Jack the Ripper takes place in the Victorian Era where women, especially lord's daughters, are expected to behave a certain way and like certain things. They're expected to hold tea and like pretty things.
