Clockwork Angel

Image
Author: Cassandra Clare Read: 7/24/2018 Pages: 481 Rating: 5 Format: physical Response: This book was a perfect addition to the Mortal Instruments series. Though it wasn't a continuation, instead it was prequel. It takes place in 1878 when Tessa leave New York and goes to London at the request of her brother after her only other family dies suddenly. Here we find out that Tessa has abilities like a warlock, but no warlock mark. She ends up teaming up, and sometimes fighting, with the ancestors of Clary, Jace, Alec, and Isabelle. Together with Will and Jem, Tessa fights the clockwork creatures. All of the characters are strong in their own ways. Will is both frustrating and easy to understand. He has a moral obligation he feels like to not let anyone too close to him. And he does a good job at pushing everyone but Jem away. The style of wr...

Hunting Prince Dracula

Image
Author: Kerri Maniscalco Read: 9/14/2018 Pages: 434 Rating: 4.5 Format: audio Response: Audrey and Thomas continue their journey to become investigators in this sequel to Stalking Jack the Ripper . Here they travel to Romania to Vlad Dracula's castle to compete for spots in a prestigious course for forensics. During their time there, Thomas constantly undermines Audrey and her feeling after the incident with her brother. He's trying to shield her, but effectively making her, as the only female, look weak and incapable. Thomas eventually gets the point that this is not the way to her heart, and gets on board with how she wants to be treated. As his equal. The person behind everything was a surprise as I actually thought they were dead, but seeing Thomas's sister come in with her girlfriend and save the day gave me so much joy. The end...

February Bingo Update

Image
My bingo card hasn't been updated yet by the officials so it currently looks like this:  I finished up Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris for the Adult Fiction prompt.  However, I've also finished 3 other books including: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith (Epic Love) When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon (Contemporary) The Princess Trap by Talia Hibbert (With a fake relationship) So my bingo card is actually looking like this currently: I have quite a few books I'm working on also, including: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas (red cover) 10% The Selection by Kiera Cass (dress on cover) 12% Beastly by Alex Flinn (flower on cover) 1% A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership by James Comey ( double dip: audiobook and political themes) 55% Love in Disguise by Carol Cox (love in the title) 42% These books will give me a bingo as well as start working on a couple more.  I have 12 days...

The 100

Image
Author: Kass Morgan Read: 7/18/2018 Pages: 326 Rating: 4 Format: physical Response: I enjoyed this more than the show on the CW, and I love that show. I really like Bellamy and Clarke here as compared to the first season of the TV show. Luke and Glass was something I wasn't expecting, and at first I was not a fan, but they grew on me. It was interesting to see what families were willing to do to protect each other and keep the people they loved safe. The point of view changes every chapter, and while I don't typically like changes in POV, it was well played. Where other writers send you across time with the switch, Morgan kept it all on the same timeline (aside from flashbacks), so when you were done seeing what was happening on Earth, she flipped you up to space for what was happening right then.

February Bingo

Welcome to "Smutruary"! Just kidding… kind of. I am going to read a lot of smut/romance this month, because I am determined to make a bingo this month damn it! lol. I'm only going to do 1 review of all them at the end, instead of separate reviews as usual. I still plan on reading other stuff, but reading's supposed to be enjoyable, and I at least enjoy bad puns and angst so I'm going to try it out! There are a couple of spaces I haven't decided on yet, mainly because my library holds were maxed out and so were my borrows 😂 But if you have any suggestions, send them my way! Let's see how far I get this month 😂 Insta-love trope: Once Upon a Prince by Rachel Hauck Love in the title: Love in Disguise by Carol Cox Set in Asia: Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan Political themes: A Higher Loyalty by James Comey With an OTP: Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare With a fake relationship: The Princess Trap by Talia Hibbert Audiobook...

Juniper: The Happiest Fox

Image
Author: Jessika Coker Read: 7/16/2018 Pages: 144 Rating: 4.5 Format: physical Response: This was such a spur of the moment purchase, and I have no regrets. I enjoyed this book so much and it was so cute! It follows Juniper and being rescued into a loving home. Juniper has her quirks, and she's still a wild animal, but the love Jessika has for her friend is amazing. After reading this, my heart was so full and I was so happy. The pictures were gorgeous and the writing flowed wonderfully. The only thing that I would've changed is to have sentences end on the same page and not 2 pages later because of the pictures.

January bingo Final

Well here we are... I didn't get a bingo like I wanted, February I will if it's the last thing I do!  That being said, Drums of Autumn is still kicking my ass, and that was the one I missed for "intimidating book". I'm about 100 pages from finishing "shape shifting character" aka Stolen by Kelley Armstrong. Check out my February Bingo to watch to see if I actually get a Bingo!
