Response: The Heir is the 4th book in The Selection series. To be honest, I skipped the first three books in the series. This one was on sale on Audible, and I'm not above a buy one get one free. Also, I read enough of the description to know that I could skip 1-3 and still be able okay to know what's going on. The Heir picks up years later when Eadlyn is old enough to have a selection of her own. Eadlyn is not someone you typically like for a main character, she's your typical disconnected princess who's spoiled and entitled. But the fact that she tries SO hard to be perfect at everything while dealing with internal conflicts and self doubt was so endearing that I wanted her to to be the best future Queen, without a husband by her side. She agree to the selection to help her parents, while she has no intention of finishing it with a wedding. But Eadlyn looses her brother, and then tragedy strikes, making Eadlyn more determined then ever to find a husband (for real). She shows throughout how vulnerable and naive she is in so many aspects. It was a cute book that kept me entertained the entire way through, and the cliffhanger had me excited for The Crown.

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I like to watch new shows before I read the books they're based on. If I hate the premise of the show, I'm certainly going to hate the book. But there have been a couple of TV shows over the years that have made me want to read the books that they're based on, just because I love the worlds that are built so much. Outlander is one of those shows that I heard about for so long, but I never really watched it. I knew everyone loved it, and it was really good, but I just never got into the idea of it. Then someone recommended the book to me. January Bingo

This month I will be participating in a book bingo from The Book Democracy. This is my sheet before anything is filled in. Each week I'll post updates of how far I've gotten. My goal is one bingo by the end of the month. The rules are simple.  1. ONE book a month may be used on TWO squares, not including the free space. 2. I really like Bellamy and Clarke here as compared to the first season of the TV show. Luke and Glass was something I wasn't expecting, and at first I was not a fan, but they grew on me. It was interesting to see what families were willing to do to protect each other and keep the people they loved safe. The point of view changes every chapter, and while I don't typically like changes in POV, it was well played. Where other writers send you across time with the switch, Morgan kept it all on the same timeline (aside from flashbacks), so when you were done seeing what was happening on Earth, she flipped you up to space for what was happening right then.
