Percy Jackson's Greek Gods

Author: Rick Riordan Read: 01/11/2017 Pages: 417 Rating: 5/5 Format: Physical book Book Description: "A publisher in New York asked me to write down what I know about the Greek gods, and I was like Can we do this anonymously? Because I don't need the Olympians mad at me again. But if it helps you to know your Greek gods, and survive an encounter with them if they ever show up in your face, then I guess writing all this down will be my good deed for the week." So begins Percy Jackson's Greek Gods, in which the son of Poseidon adds his own magic -- and sarcastic asides -- to the classics. He explains how the world was created, then gives readers his personal take on who's who of ancients, from Apollo to Zeus. Percy does not hold back. Read: 01/04/2017 Pages: 320 Rating: 3/5 Format: Physical book Book Description: It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children. While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places. Response: It took me until the end of the book to realize who the actual author was. It explained why the book never felt quite right. It was NOT written by J.K. Rowling, and it definitely showed. The story line was overall good, but the reactions of the characters from books 1-7 felt wrong. Even new characters rea...

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Author: J.K. Rowling Read: 12/28/2016 Pages: 128 Rating: 5/5 Format: Physical book Book Description: When Magizoologist Newt Scamander arrives in New York, he intends his stay to be just a brief stopover. However, when his magical case is misplaced and some of Newt's fantastic beasts escape, it spells trouble for everyone. Response: I loved this book. The main thing that made it so great was that it was so easy to get sucked into it and forget that you weren't actually reading a novel. My favorite part was when the book referenced what happened to the main characters. It made it nice ending that left no loose ends.
